Jamie Newsom
Jamie Newsom is a mechanical engineer with a lifelong passion for fine woodworking and music. His journey into harp-making began 25 years ago when his then 14-year-old daughter expressed a deep love for playing the harp. Inspired by her enthusiasm, Jamie saw an opportunity to blend his technical expertise with his woodworking and music skills.
Drawing on his technical background, he designed an instrument that would meet — and exceed — the highest standards in the harp-making industry. The result was not just a single harp but the birth of Newsom Harps, a boutique workshop dedicated to creating top-quality, handcrafted harps.
Jamie’s unique fusion of precision engineering, artisanal woodworking, and musical sensitivity has made Newsom Harps a respected name amongst harp enthusiasts in Canada and abroad.
Jamie Newsom lives in beautiful Bragg Creek, nestled in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies in Alberta. He is particularly Known for his beautiful 36-string Celtic harps - the model Emilie.
About the PennyHarp
About a year ago, Jamie set out on a personal challenge: to design and build the ultimate small harp. His vision was clear — the harp had to be visually stunning, structurally solid, lightweight, and versatile. Just as importantly, it also needed to be easy to play and capable of producing a rich, beautiful sound.
The result is the PennyHarp — a remarkable instrument that checks every box and stands out as one of the more affordable harps in its class.
This multi-purpose harp would suit beginners, music therapists, and travelling musicians.

What People Are Saying
ABOUT THE HARPS
“They are very lively, every note is like a crystal bell,” Delorme-Newsom said. “Other harps I noticed I have to work harder, they don’t speak as much.”
— Émilie
The smile of a harpist who just had three gorgeous therapy-sized harps drop in for a visit!
As always, a real treat to cross paths with our local western Canadian harp maker, Jamie Newsom. He’s developing a beautiful, resonant 27 string harp - the PennyHarp - that is quite accessible and has a beautiful, full, resonant sound.

I had the opportunity to try Jamie Newsom’s new prototype, the 27 string Penny Farthing harps. They sound fantastic! It comes with legs as well as a standing strap.
